shadow's light side

Back in a small town, far far away from the kingdom in witch he lives now, was a small village.
"Mum, may i go out to the market now?" asked 10 year old Jacob Anderson.
"Sure. here is some spending money and a list." his mom handed him a small shopping list.
When he finally reached the market, he looked down at the list.
"rice." he said to himself, looking around.
after picking out some rice, he read the next thing on the list; watermelon.
he ran over to the fruit vendor. There he spotted his friend Peter, who walked over to him.
"hey." he whispered. "you know how to get the stuff for free?" he pointed to the cart of watermelons.
Jacob nodded slowly, and Peter pulled him over to the cart.
"now kick it!" he told him. "what? i could never do that! we'd get in trouble!" Jacob didn't think this was right.
"stop being such a goody two-shoes! go ahead, kick it!"
this made Jacob angry.
he ran up to the cart hoping to prove him wrong, and kicked.
his foot started to throb, but he realized it was worth it once he saw the watermelons rolling out of the tipped cart.
"great job! i couldn't have done better myself!" he saw Peter smile at him.
being a theif wasn't so bad after all.
at least he had gotten the melons for free.
Jacob rushed back home to his small, shabby cottage.
"Jacob, you seem to have lots of money with you." said his mother, his younger sister by his side.
"oh, the people at the market were being extra nice to me today." he lied.
his mother knew this was a lie. the butcher was always so crabby, and he couldn't have possibly loaned him some free duck meat just because.
she let him go that time.
Jacob ran to his room, where he lie on his small mat, witch served as a bed.
at least it wasn't a hay stack like some of the other kids.
by the time his eleventh birthday came around, Jacob had been sneaking his stolen goods into the house.
his mom opened the cabinent to extra food every day.
Jacob needed to be punished. families were supposed to work for food, and if he kept this stealing up, he might as well become a criminal and be put in jail.
she didn't want her child to be burned at a stage.
the next day, she asked him to go to the market.
of course he said yes, and when he came back, his mother stopped him in the doorway.
Jacob was sent to his room, where he would stay.
he started to get angry.
mad at his mother. mad at the market. mad at peter.
mad at himself.
that night, he dressed in all black and climbed through the window, heading for the market.
it was empty. he could hear the chirp of crickets it was so quiet!
he snuck up to the blacksmith's set up, where he grabbed a dagger off of a shelf.
he thought about all those bad times: the sad and cold winters, his father's death...
inky watery blackness began to spread from the dagger's tip to his body.
he was swallowed up in it as he dropped the dagger, then picking it back up.
that night, he would get his revenge.
he climbed back through the window, dagger in hand, into his sister's bedroom.
he towered over her, hand outstretched...
there was a sudden shreik of terror that was cut of aburpthy as blood covered the sheets, spewing from his sister's neck.
he had killed her.
what had he done?
how could Jacob have let himself kill her?
what would he say to his mother? they would both surely be arrested by the guards.
did he have to tell her?
kill her, too...
what? Jacob could never do that!
she won't have to know...
scared by the mysterious whisper in his head, he dropped the dagger and jumped through the window.
dawn was already here, and the people would be arriving soon to buy, trade, or sell.
trust me...
never!
the bad memory of the watermelons came back. he wanted to forget everything he knew and start over again.
it will be okay....
Jacob skidded to a stop at the edge of a big ditch.
he jumped, tumbling through the air.
Jacob expected to hit the ground, knocking the air out of him and giving way to eternal blackness at any moment.
but no, it never came.
he opened his eyes and realised he was going up instead of down!
look up to the light, Jacob...
he knew he could trust this mysterious, shadowy whisper now.
from now on, he was shadow, the brave and fearless.
as he ran through the forest, Jacob began to become hungry.
find food...
but how?
hunt, shadow.
he liked being called shadow.
Jacob scensed a small movement in the fallen leaves.
now kill it!
he jumped onto where the movement was coming from, and dug his fingernails into it's flesh.
he had caught a mouse! as he bit into it, he was about to thank mother nature.
no need to worship, shadow...
Jacob sat down and relaxed. it was getting dark, so he went to make a fire.
after collecting the wood needed, he made a fire, and settled down for the night on a make-shift bed of moss.
Jacob had been traveling, hunting as he went along.
but there was no trace of food here.
look with your eyes... up ahead!
he looked up from the forest floor and saw a village.
he licked his lips hungrily and sped up.
by the time he reached it, it was already nightfall. he crept up into a cottage window.
there is a child here, shadow.....
Jacob looked around the cottage and heard the faint sound of a little boy snoring.
he crept up to the bed, pulled out his dagger, and...
"dinner for two!"
run, shadow!
Jacob slid out the window and made a run for the forest.
there, he had his meal of flesh, bone, and guts.
one day, he sat in an alley, knocking over trash cans and scrounging for food.
there was a mean hiss behind him.
"stay out of my territory!"
it was a female, she looked a lot like a lion.
he wasn't looking for a fight.
"why hello. i'm shadow, the brave and fearless."
she looked surprised. possibly because he didn't fight her?
"i'm lion, the strong and fierce."
fight her, you fool!
Jacob completely ignored the voice. She was just like him, and he was just like she.
"i know this may sound strange, but..."
"yeah?" he asked.
"i kinda... like.. you? i mean.. i know we just met eachother, but there's something about you. something that only certain people have."
the whisper!
"i understand."
"oh.. really? I know where we can find food. follow me!"
In the next couple of days, they had been surviving together.
"I was wondering.." she asked.
"yes."
they held hands as they watched the sun disappear behind the stream.
Jacob was 15 now.  He pulled his journal from his bag and began to write:
Bird is so cute. her little sneezes are like those of a kitten's. That whisper is gone, and i'm glad. Unisha has been doing well, and so have I...
"Da-Da!" Jacob hugged his little two-year-old daughter tight. She burst with laughter.
"I hope my little flower lives for long..."
The sky erupted with lightning. Bird was now six.
"RUN!" Jacob gave his daughter to lion.
they bolted out one of the cave's exits when a huge wave of water gushed in.
"Get to the top of the hill!" he called after them.
he jumped off the ledge and started to block every entrance but the one at the top of the hill.
by the time he had finished, the storm had stopped.
Jacob climbed through the hole in the top of the cave that led to the hill, but no one was there.
"no... it can't be..."
he dropped to his knees, crying.
Jacob ran, far from the tunnels, far from the waterfalls and forests.
when he began to get tired, he found a small hollow to sleep in.
The next morning, he set off again over the hills until he found a castle.
he peeked into a window, and saw....
"she's gorgeous..."
the end

part two, wasting time

"Shadow! look what I found!" Blue called, picking out a huge, dusty-covered book from the shelf.
"What in the world is that thing?" He called up to her, intangible in case she dropped it. But then he realized it wouldn't hurt him anyways, and he relaxed.
"The book of remaining time. A creepy title."
"Yeah." Shadow was unsure of this.
"Hey, it's not like it's going to swallow you in a bunch of painful bites, silly!"
of course it wasn't. He was a shadow, and it would go right through him.
"Let's hurry. The library is closing soon!"
His new wife carried the book, (for he couldn't.) and they chatted on the way back.
"so." he said. "how easy was it to catch that jewlrey-thief?"
Blue Warrior Kader, now Blue Warrior Hayalet, was a knight. She had acted as a boy so she could become a knight and was originally in a tribe.
"It wasn't that hard, actually." she replied. "They weren't the best thief ever."
"Oh." he was out of things to say, and besides, it was nighttime already.
When they got to the castle, it was quiet except for Willow, Spectra, and Countess's conversation.
"Hello you two lovebirds!"
Shadow hated her calling them that.
"Oh, hello Countess!" Blue was as nice as usual, but of course, Countess the maid was her clone.
"Doing some midnight reading?" Asked Spectra.
"Yeah, it's pretty late." Added Willow.
"We're just reading for a bit. Nothing much." Shadow replied.
The next day, after a long night of sleep, they decided to read it.
Shadow studied the leather cover. It didn't look that old on the outside, but it looked like it had been trampled by five horses and some sort of beast on the inside, along with all the dust and mold.
It was called the book of remaining time. Maybe it had been around for long, or time-traveled...
No, that wasn't possible.
But warlocks can do magic!
He didn't know what to think, and opened it.
Shadow flipped to the moldiest page, not that he wanted to. He was just curious.
Leaving Blue behind, he was sucked in.
"Help!" He screamed, falling through space and time, arms flailing.
He found himself face-to-face with...
himself?
how was this possible?
The kid who stood before him- Jacob- would soon become a power-hungry killer.
He had to stop himself.
Grabbing the dagger from the same store the kid before him would have bought  it from a year later, he  ran over to Peter, obviously invisible to everyone around him, and slit his throat.
"NO!" Yelled Jacob, who ran over to Peter, studying his bloody neck.
Shadow took the dagger and killed himself, the world going black, and then...
He was in Jacob's body again, crouched over Peter's dead, bleeding body.
It was time to start over.
He crushed the dagger and started his journey to the castle.
* * *
The sky was getting dark.
Jacob lie down on the grass beside a tree.
The grassy hill didn't have much shelter, but it was all he could see for miles.
After a long night of sleep, he set off towards the kingdom.
There was a man sitting beside a tree.
"Hello, sir."
The man didn't look up.
He didin't want to annoy the man, so he decided not to say hello twice.
As if he had read Jacob's mind, the man said "I am Leafhunter. This is my tribe's land. Do you need something, young man?"
Leafhunter.
That was Blue's old tribe leader.
"Do you know a Blue?" He asked.
"She left a month ago."
"Thanks." I ran off towards the distant castle.
